Come to the woods with me

Photographing myself in the woods became a ritual when I was unknowingly pregnant with my son. Instictively I knew my life was going to change but had no idea what that would look like. Over the years, I started turning the camera on myself anytime I needed to see something I could not see, when something inside of me needed to move, or I wanted to honor myself where I was. Nature holds me, the trees are there to listen, the ground wants me to take off my shoes and feel the earth, and the art is an offering for whatever it is inside of me that drives me to keep changing and moving.

I wanted to provide this life-moving experience to other women as a way for them to reconnect to the parts of themself that can get stuck or lost in the responsibilities of life. Those responsibilities can disempower us if we push away the gnawing voice of our own intuition telling us it is necessary to care for ourselves the way we care for others.

I don’t go into these sessions with an agenda, whatever needs to move inside of you will have the space to move. Sometimes it takes a yell, sometimes a howl, sometimes it’s closing your eyes and breathing. Some women come to these sessions to work through big feelings, some need a witness to their joy or pain, and some want to feel beautiful and remember who they are, to come back to their body after years of unknowingly being away from it. I welcome vulnerability with open arms. Experience has taught me that no story is outside of the realm of being honored.

I have photographed women working through grief and divorce, the changes that come with getting older, finding their path to spirituality, and the rites of passage both birth and death present to us.

Life is the ritual, you are the altar, and art is an offering we can give to ourselves as a way of remembering who we are.

I have a symbiotic relationship with some very special locations that I like to visit for these sessions. The more we love on the land with art, the more the land loves on us with healing. But, if you have a special place in mind for your session I am open to that as well. Contact me below to start dreaming up your own personal photo experience.
